The purpose of Sections is to promote NCFR’s mission and the common interests of NCFR members in specified areas of concern of families. Both the growth of membership in NCFR and the proliferation of special interests have brought about a need for Sections. They are a means of increasing communication and interaction among NCFR members of similar interests within the framework of the larger organization.
NCFR maintains an e-mail listserv for each Section, providing an avenue for Section members to communicate. All Section members are automatically subscribed to the Section listserv.

FAMILY and HEALTH are interested in addressing family health issues. Health is viewed holistically. It is more than physiological diseases and/or stress. Health also encompasses various wellness states and is inclusive of health promotion and prevention activities at the individual, family and systemic level. Examples of individual factors that influence family health might include genetic, biochemical/physical, and psychological/developmental predispositions/alternations and behaviors. Systemic factors might include unhealthy environments (pollution, violence/crime, historically being a part of a disenfranchised group, media); institutions (educational system, criminal justice system); economics; and/or governmental policies. Importantly, to prudently address the health of families, our section is also interested in outcomes based research and evidences based practice. Focus Groups: Chronic Illness & Disability and Issues in Aging.
