Governance Handbook

National Council on Family Relations Board Policy Governance Handbook

On June 26-28, 1998, members of the NCFR Board of Directors Governance Taskforce drafted a blueprint of Policy Governance for NCFR at the Board’s request. They worked diligently to draft the first 2-3 levels of three Policy sections dealing with (a) Board Governance Policies – what the Board expects of itself and how it will behave, (b) Executive Limitations Policies – what the Executive Director may NOT do, (c) Board-Executive Director Linkage Policies – how organizational authority is transferred from the Board to the Executive Director. The development of NCFR’s Ends Policies refers to the effect an organization seeks to have on the world outside itself. It will cause something to be different for someone at some cost. The Development of the NCFR Board Policy Governance Handbook is the ongoing task of the current Board.
