Graduates of NCFR approved academic programs can apply for Provisional Certification through an Abbreviated Application process. Provisional certification is available to those with a Baccalaureate degree and course work in all ten family life content areas, but without the sufficient work experience needed for Full certification experience. Abbreviated Applications are reviewed by staff at the NCFR office and are typically processed within 30 days.

Each NCFR approved academic program has a checklist of pre-approved courses. Graduates complete the checklist and submit it to the NCFR office along with the Abbreviated Application Form, an official transcript showing degree completion, and the Abbreviated Application fee.
Once the Provisional CFLE has completed sufficient work experience, they can upgrade to Full Certification by documenting their work experience. There is an $85 ($110 non-members) review fee payable upon submission of work experience.
