How to Apply for CFLE Academic Program Approval
(This information is for schools wishing to be recognized by NCFR.)

Academic Program Review Benefits PowerPoint Presentation

The purpose of the Academic Program Review is to recognize schools offering undergraduate and/or graduate degree programs that include course work that follows the Criteria needed for approval as a Provisional Certified Family Life Educator. Provisional Certification is available to the applicant with a family degree, but less than the required work experience needed for Full Certification.

The Academic Program Review Committee of the National Council on Family Relations will approve programs that meet the CFLE Standards and Criteria. Approval can be given to a specified degree program or to an identified CFLE track of courses offered through several departments. Approval allows the school to offer their graduates the opportunity to apply for the Provisional Certified Family Life Educator designation using an Abbreviated Application Process with a reduced application fee.

Schools applying for approval must have at least one NCFR member and one Certified Family Life Educator on staff within the department that is offering the degree for which approval is sought. This can be the same person. An NCFR membership application can be submitted at the same time as the Academic Program Review Application.

If you are seeking approval for more than one degree program, i.e., an undergraduate and a graduate level program, you must submit separate and complete applications for each degree. The Academic Program Review Application Fee is $525 per program.

Approved programs will be re-evaluated every five years through the submission of a Renewal Application. This follow-up application will consist of a list of any changes to the program requirements or courses, current syllabi, and a listing of current faculty. A Renewal Fee is due upon submission of the updated syllabi Renewal Application.
